Charity.
I love those people who always say "I want to do something good" but never find the time to. No, I'm no being facetious. I like those people, because they are the ones I want to look at this page. They need to pick something below, and start doing that something good right now. Join something. Donate something. Do anything. Just do something good.
These are the organizations in which I strongly support.
Learning Makes a Difference Foundation - This non for profit based out of Georgia whose goal is to promote education by using different and innovative processes. They take certain non-traditional ideas, such as paying underpriviledged students for their good grades, and put funding behind these projects to prove effectiveness in hope that traditional institutions will adopt these successful practices.
The American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals - the ASPCA is a wonderful organization which works every day to save and prevent animals from the heartbreaking cruelty that happens across our country. Animals are helpless without us, and it is our job to make sure that they are treated fairly and not tortured to death or bred shamlessly for commodity.
The Cystic Fibrosis Foundation - A very dear friend of mine lived with and died from this terrible disease. In the 80s, the average life expectancy for individuals with CF was only 14, but with research and technology that number has increased to 40. In the future, I firmly believe we will find a cure for this and many other genetic ailments. It is important that we all continue to support this research and educate ourselves about these conditions.
Kiva - this wonderful organization take normal people with big hearts and allows them to contibute money for loans that are distributed to small businesses in developing countries. With this method, even if you are only able to contibute a little, when combined with the efforts of thousands of other people all over the world, your contribution becomes part of something bigger. The best part is that you may continue to follow the success of that specific small business which you have contributed to so you can see how your money has really made a difference.
